Unlike the UK which in comparison seems surprisingly liberal in relation to drinking and gambling, New Zealand has strict rules on alcohol and lottery ticket purchasing over Easter.

Under New Zealand law, you can’t buy alcohol or a lottery ticket on Good Friday, Easter Sunday or Easter Monday; no exceptions.
